Description

European Commission closes consultation on effects of recommendation on combating online piracy of live content

On 28 May 2025, the European Commission closes the consultation on the impact of the recommendation on combating online piracy of sports and other live events. The recommendation aims to support Member States and intermediary service providers in addressing illegal streaming by clarifying the applicability of the Digital Services Act and promoting swift action on flagged content. It also advises issuing blocking injunctions under existing intellectual property law, granting legal standing to sports event organisers, and improving lawful access through affordable offerings and public awareness. Feedback is being collected to evaluate the Recommendation's efficacy and to determine the necessity for additional measures.
